VAT rules that match your situation
Domestic passenger transport by taxi generally falls under 9% VAT. Platform fees, foreign commission invoices and other services may be treated differently. We check ride revenue and platform fees separately so that your VAT return matches the underlying documents.

Maximum tax benefit for drivers
Fuel or charging, maintenance, insurance, lease or depreciation, cleaning, telephony and platform costs can be business-relevant. We also look at the consequences of business or private use of the car and only process costs that can be demonstrated with a proper invoice or substantiation.

Accounting as a taxi driver: this is what you need to know
A taxi administration has three layers that must reconcile with each other: your trip registration, your payment flows, and your bookkeeping. Therefore, retain not only bank transactions, but also platform statements, commission invoices, cash trips, and receipts.
Since 1 July 2025, the Central Taxi Transport Database (CDT) can be used for trip and employment data. From 1 January 2028, the CDT will become compulsory. This taxi registration has a different purpose to your financial administration; however, the data must logically correspond.

Frequently Asked Questions
Practical answers for independent taxi drivers and taxi business owners.
Should I charge VAT on my trips?
Domestic passenger transport by taxi is generally subject to VAT under code 9%. Platform commissions and other services may be subject to different VAT treatment, particularly where the provider is based abroad. For this reason, we process journey revenue and platform fees separately.
How do I best keep track of my mileage?
You record trips and working and rest times in accordance with the taxi regulations. For tax administration purposes, we also make a distinction between business trips, empty kilometres and private use. A BCT or CDT registration does not replace your financial administration.
What can I include as expenses?
Consider fuel or charging, maintenance, taxi insurance, lease or depreciation, parking, cleaning, telephony and platform commission. The deduction depends on business use and your supporting documents. Therefore, keep invoices and trip records, not just bank statements.
How often do we speak to each other?
You can schedule a 1-to-1 meeting every month to discuss your figures or questions. In between, you can ask questions via the agreed channels. This way, you decide for yourself how much contact you need.
