Here's what you need to do!
It can happen to anyone: you're in the Small business scheme (KOR) And accidentally put VAT on your invoices. No problem! This simple step-by-step plan will help you quickly rectify the VAT error KOR.
Step 1: Who is your customer?
The approach depends on who sent you the invoice:
B2C (private individuals)
- Good news! Have you charged VAT to an individual? Then there is no problem. The VAT is simply seen as turnover and does not have to be declared separately to the tax authorities.
- What to do? Actually, nothing! You just need to correct internally that this was a mistake.
B2B (Business customers)
- Note! This is where you do need to do something. Business customers often want to reclaim VAT, but you cannot remit it because you fall under the KOR. This creates a "VAT gap" and can cause problems.
- Action points:
- Creating a credit invoice: Send a credit invoice to your customer reversing the incorrect VAT.
- Send new invoice: Create a new invoice without VAT. Explain to your customer that you fall under the KOR and VAT does not apply.
- Can't you correct it anymore? If time has already passed and you can no longer correct the situation with a new invoice, contact the Tax Office.
Step 2: Send a letter to the tax authorities
For business customers, it is important to notify the tax authorities, especially if you have already received the VAT from your customer and cannot correct it.
- What do you put in the letter?
- Explain the situation: For example, "I accidentally calculated VAT while falling under the KOR."
- Ask for advice: For example, "How can I resolve this administratively and remit the VAT if necessary?"
Tip: The Tax Office is often sympathetic and can help you with a practical solution to put this right.
Briefly:
Individuals? No action needed, just get on with business.
Corporate clients? Correct the VAT error KOR with a credit invoice and a new invoice without VAT. Can't correct it? Consult with the tax authorities.
Tax authorities? Send a letter explaining what happened and how you want to resolve it.
With these steps, you'll be right back on track. And remember: making mistakes is human, as long as you fix it nicely.
