The bookkeeper who does things differently

Everything in one place from your first invoice

You don't need to figure out accounting software. In our app you create and send invoices, scan receipts and link your bank account. You forward purchase invoices to your own mailbox. We process your administration. On your dashboard you can see your income, expenses and VAT right from the start, so you know where you stand.

We will take care of your first tax returns

Shortly after you start, the Dutch Tax Authorities will already expect your first VAT return. We handle your VAT returns and your income tax return as an entrepreneur, based on the records you submit via the app. If you submit your invoices and receipts on time, the return can be sent off on time. If you are in doubt about anything, you simply ask your accountant.

Startup deduction, VAT exemption for small businesses (KOR) and setting aside reserves: discuss it in advance

Start-up deduction, self-employed person's deduction and KOR: as a start-up entrepreneur, you have to deal with them straight away. You only receive these tax deductions if the Tax and Customs Administration recognises you as an entrepreneur and you meet the hourly criterion of 1,225 hours. The government intends to practically scrap the start-up deduction from 2027. In your one-to-one conversation, you will discuss what this means for you, whether the KOR suits you and how much you set aside.

A dedicated accountant for all your startup questions

Can I deduct my laptop? Is there VAT on this invoice? As a startup, you have a lot of questions like this. You can ask them via WhatsApp or email to your own accountant, as often as you like. In addition, you can schedule a 1-to-1 meeting every month to calmly go over your figures and plans.

Bookkeeper for start-ups: from Chamber of Commerce registration to first tax return

What you set up properly in the first few months, you do not have to fix later. Per step, you can see what you do and what we take over.

  1. You

Registering with the Chamber of Commerce and receiving your VAT ID

Registration will cost a one-off €85.15 in 2026. Your VAT ID will usually follow within two weeks and you put it on your invoices. Meanwhile, schedule your free introductory meeting.

  2. You

Setting up your records in the app

You link your bank account and get your own mailbox for purchase invoices. A business account is not compulsory, but keeps business and private finances separate.

  3. You

Sending first invoices and scanning receipts

You create and send invoices in the app. You scan receipts directly. You keep track of hours and business mileage in the same app.

  4. We

    Submitting your first VAT return

Most start-ups submit a quarterly return. We take care of this on the basis of your bookkeeping; you can see the amount in advance in the dashboard.

  5. We

First income tax return as an entrepreneur

After your first financial year, we will complete your income tax return as an entrepreneur. In your 1-to-1 conversation, you will discuss how much you are setting aside.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions that start-ups frequently ask us about costs, VAT and tax, answered honestly.

No, an accountant is not compulsory. An accurate set of accounts is, from the day you start. In the first year, the risk lies in small things, such as a forgotten VAT return, a missed scheme for small businesses (KOR) deadline or a missing hours log. With an accountant, you reduce the chance of such mistakes and you don't make choices like the KOR based on gut feeling.

Yes, that is possible, especially if you have few invoices and receipts. However, software does not answer questions about your VAT return, the hours criterion or the Small Businesses Scheme (KOR). At Van Passe you get both: the app for your daily administration and an accounting firm that takes care of your returns, with a dedicated accountant for all your questions.

The 1,225 hours apply per calendar year and are not prorated if you start later. If you start in the autumn, you will find it difficult to reach that threshold. Quotes and administration also count. In addition to a job, you must also put most of your working time into your business. That requirement is waived if you were not an entrepreneur in one of the five preceding years.

No, the KOR is optional and is available for a turnover of up to €20,000 per calendar year. You then do not charge VAT, but you also cannot reclaim VAT. With many investments, that is often disadvantageous. You can only register with your VAT ID, at the latest four weeks before the VAT period in which the KOR takes effect. Until then, you simply charge VAT. Discuss it with your accountant beforehand.

Yes. As soon as you have a VAT number, you file a return for every period, even if you haven't invoiced anything yet. You then enter zero for your turnover. If you did have business expenses with VAT, you can reclaim that VAT. Such a nil return is also simply included in our package.
